Swimming Season Continues With NCAAs And International Action

STORRS, Conn. (March 17, 2008) – The University of Connecticut men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams have a busy month ahead for many members of the team.
The Husky squads are coming off outstanding seasons where both team finished in fifth place at the BIG EAST Championships.
Senior Courtney Haney (Mesa, Ariz.) will take part in the in Columbus, Ohio from March 20-22 and participate in the 100 and 200 breaststroke. Her times from the conference meet were both school records and her 'A' cut places her 19th in the country in the 200 breaststroke heading into the meet. She was a ‘B’ cut qualifier in the 100.
Freshman Alex Davidson (Pointe-Claire, Quebec) will take part in the from April 1-6 in Montreal. He will swim in the 200 backstroke, after setting at school record at the BIG EAST Conference meet, and the 100 backstroke. This past summer, he finished seventh at the Canadian Summer National Championships.
Sophomore Jon Wong (Toronto, Ontario) will participate in the from April 9-13 in Manchester, England and represent his native Jamaica. He will swim the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle events. This meet will feature many of the best swimmers in the world as they use this meet to continue to prepare for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. Wong swam in the Pan America Games this past summer.
The Annual Team Banquet will be held on campus Sunday, April 6, to celebrate the conclusion of the 2007-2008 season and annual team awards will be announced. The swimmers are currently beginning spring training through the conclusion of the year of the academic year.
