DENVER, Colo. (March 11, 2008) - Kim McGinty (Huntington, N.Y.), Whitney Michele (East Rochester, N.Y.) and Katy Ryan (Hamburg, N.Y.) each tallied hat tricks, but it was not enough for the win as the University of Connecticut women's lacrosse team fell to No. 20 Denver, 21-13. With the loss, the Huskies are now 0-4 on the season while the Pioneers improve to 3-3.
Denver scored five of the first six goals, including three from Ali Flury, who ended the day with six goals. Michele had the lone score to interrupt that run, but then Ryan and McGinty each scored their first of the day to cut the lead to 5-3 with 18:04 to play in the first half.
Robyn Pastuch (Merrick, N.Y.) tried to get a rally going, however, two more goals from Flury spurred a 10-7 lead for the Pioneers heading into the half.
UConn and Denver exchanged a series of goals to start the second half to bring the score to 13-9 in favor of the Pionners, but Denver rattled off five unanswered goals to build a lead that the Huskies were unable to overcome.
UConn returns to action Saturday at Loyola in Baltimore, Md., at 1:00 p.m. The game will be webcast live FREE through Huskies All-Access, linked from the front page of UConnHuskies.com
