Women's Volleyball Falls to Pittsburgh, 3-0

STORRS, Conn. (September 30, 2007) - Bridget Denson-Dorman (Golden Valley, Minn.) recorded 37 assists and nine digs as the University of Connecticut women's volleyball team fell to Pittsburgh 3-0 (27-30, 29-31, 29-31) on Sunday afternoon in Gampel Pavilion.
The Huskies, who lost to Pittsburgh last season in the teams' only regular season meeting, could not hold off the Panthers as Pittsburgh took the first two games of the match with a solid offensive attack. The Panthers recorded 16 kills in both games while the Huskies had just 12 and 15 team kills with 10 hitting errors in both games.
The third game was another close match-up as the Huskies tied the score 10 times but the Panthers were able to connect at the end and took the final game 31-29.
Senior Sadé Chambers (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) led the Huskies with 14 kills and one solo block while freshman Lauren Lamberti (Cary, Ill.) recorded 11 kills. Rebecca Murray (Carmel, Ind.) added seven kills and three block assists for UConn as the Huskies fall to 11-5 overall and 2-2 in the BIG EAST.
Pittsburgh's Meagan Dooley had a match-high 15 kills while Panthers' libero, Michelle Rossi, recorded 23 digs as Pittsburgh improves to 9-8 on the season.
UConn will travel to Cincinnati for a BIG EAST Conference match on Friday, Oct. 5 at 7:30 p.m. before heading to Louisville for a 2:00 p.m. match on Sunday, Oct. 7.
