Women's Volleyball Wins First Match in BIG EAST Play

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. (September 23, 2007) - Rebecca Murray (Carmel, Ind.) recorded 11 kills and six digs as the University of Connecticut women's volleyball team defeated Seton Hall 3-0 (30-27, 30-17, 30-28) in the Huskies second match of the weekend, on Sunday afternoon in South Orange, N.J.
UConn, after losing their first BIG EAST match of the season on Saturday at Villanova, came out strong, dominating play in both the first and second games. The Huskies won the first game with stellar attacking, finding a hole in the defense 20 times, while tallying a 40.5 hitting percentage. In the second game, the Huskies hit 36.1-percent and held the Pirates to just 8.3-percent.
The third game was close, as UConn won 30-28, led by an impressive defensive effort as libero Jessica Isaac (Erlanger, Ky.) and setter Bridget Denson-Dorman (Golden Valley, Minn.) combined for 17 digs on the day.
Junior Chauntay Mickens (Germantown, Md.) followed her solid performance from Saturday and added 11 kills for the Huskies while senior Sadé Chambers (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) had nine kills. Denson-Dorman came up big for UConn, once again, as she recorded 43 assists and four kills. Sophomore Kate Seabaugh (St. Louis, Mo.) and freshman Lauren Lamberti (Cary, Ill.) recorded 10 and eight kills, respectively.
Seton Hall was led by Sarah Osmun with 14 kills and nine digs while setter Brittany Rahrer had 39 assists.
UConn will return to Storrs, Conn. as they get set to host both West Virginia and Pittsburgh in BIG EAST Conference match-ups on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 29-30. Both matches will begin at 2:00 p.m.
