Women's Volleyball Falls in First BIG EAST Match

VILLANOVA, Pa. (September 22, 2007) - Bridget Denson-Dorman (Golden Valley, Minn.) dished out 47 assists and recorded six digs as the University of Connecticut women's volleyball team fell to Villanova 3-2 (30-21, 30-20, 23-30, 25-30, 15-17) in the Huskies first BIG EAST match of the 2007 season, on Saturday afternoon in Villanova, Pa.
The Huskies, despite losing two of their last three matches, came out swinging in the first game of the afternoon, winning the first game while hitting 41.2-percent.
Connecticut was able to take complete control in game two, as Sadé Chambers (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) added to her kill tally, picking up a total of 14 on the afternoon.
Junior Chauntay Mickens (Germantown, Md.) had a season-high 14 kills for the Huskies while libero Jessica Isaac (Erlanger, Ky.) recorded 12 digs.
Villanova came right back at the Huskies, proving that they were 8-4 (prior to the today's match) for a reason. The Wildcats shutout the Huskies attacking force and took the last three games, winning each by less than seven points.
Sophomore Kate Seabaugh (St. Louis, Mo.) recorded 13 kills for the Huskies, as they dropped to 9-4 overall and 0-1 in BIG EAST play.
Villanova was led by Alona Cherkez with 25 kills and 10 digs while Kacy Sellers added 21 kills. Wildcats' setter Chelsea Graman had 53 assists and five digs in the win.
UConn will travel to Seton Hall on Sunday afternoon as they get set to take on the Pirates in a 2:00 p.m. BIG EAST Conference match-up.
