Rowing Competes At Knecht Cup

CAMDEN, N.J. (April 14, 2007) -- The University of Connecticut women's rowing team competed at the Knecht Cup on Saturday. The event was scheduled to be a two-day competition, but potential bad weather on Sunday forced the event to become a one-day regatta.
The Huskies' day was highlighted by the UConn lightweight four team finishing in third place in the grand finale. That Husky team was composed of Heather Dwyer (Brewster, N.Y.), Allyson Zoppa (East Hartford, Conn.), Heather Gates (Monmouth Beach, N.J.), Michelle Stathers (Tolland, Conn.) and Katie Dobbins (Southington, Conn.). UConn finished in 8:01.01 in the final behind Pittsburgh (7:44.2) and Georgetown (7:57.8) and ahead of George Mason, Duquesne and Carnegie Melon.
The UConn novice eight won the petite finale while the Husky junior varsity eight and varsity eight both advanced to the petite finals.
The Husky novice eight boat was Claire Berube (Longmeadow, Mass.), Kelly Murphy (Marietta, Ga.), Theresa Nolan (Atlantic City, N.J.), Katie Rauscher (Manchester, Conn.), Stephanie Lamothe (Wallingford, Conn.), Jennifer Reynolds (South Hero, Vt.), Lizzy Dargie (Waterford, Conn.), Rebecca Likar (East Lyme, Conn.) and Kristen Beasley (Centerville, Mass.)
The UConn varsity eight boat was Katie Beasley (Centerville, Mass.), Erin Andersen (Barrington, R.I.), Olga Solovyova (New London, Conn.), Kathy Les (South Windsor, Conn.), Sarah Willhoft (Manchester, Conn.), Monica Parker (Glastonbury, Conn.), Kelly McGary (Lewisville, N.C.), Deb Chesser (Albany, N.Y.) and Kerri Mocko (Stafford Springs, Conn.).
The UConn junior varsity eight boat was Gabbey LaChance (Mystic, Conn.), Arielle Shiely (Clinton, Conn.), Nicole Rapp (Mansfield, Conn.), Kali Garges (Queche, Vt.), Maddie Bey (South Windsor, Conn.), Julie Konstantino (Orange, Conn.), Stephanie Bryant (Natick, Mass.), Megan Kielty (West Newton, Mass.) and Brynne Davies (Middleburry, Conn.).
UConn returns to action next Friday when it travels to Liverpool, N.Y., to take on Buffalo and Colgate.
