STORRS, Conn. (March 21, 2007)-- University of Connecticut sophomore guard Rob Garrison (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) has asked the University for permission to speak to other schools and is considering a transfer, it was announced by Head Coach Jim Calhoun Wednesday afternoon.
“Rob and I have had several conversations during the course of the year and he has expressed an interest in pursuing his options for the future,” said Calhoun. “Rob is a good person and has been a true team player over the past two years. I will do whatever he needs to assist him as he plans for the future.”
“After talking to Coach Calhoun over the past week, I have decided to explore my options and look into the possibility of transferring to another school,” said Garrison. “I have enjoyed my time here at Connecticut on and off the court, but I think I owe it to myself to make sure I am getting the most out of my college experience. Coach Calhoun and the rest of the coaching staff have been very helpful to me during this time and I know that over the next few weeks my family and I will make a decision that is in the best interest of everyone involved.”
Garrison appeared in 29 games in his two seasons at Connecticut, seeing action in 12 games in 2006-07. He was a two-time captain for national power Niagara Falls HS and was named third team All-State and first team All-Western New York as a high school senior. His team captured the 2005 State and Federation Championships and finished the year among the top five nationally-ranked high school teams in the country.
