STORRS, Conn. (March 20, 2007) - The University of Connecticut women's lacrosse team starts this week ranked 20th in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll. UConn is 5-1 on the season, matching its best start to the year since 2005.
This is the first time since the end of the 2005 season that the Huskies have held a spot in the national rankings. They spent three weeks in the Top 20, peaking at No. 18, during the 12-5 season that ended with the program's first ECAC Champioship.
Prior to that year, UConn held rank for two weeks during 2003, entering the poll at No. 20 after upsetting then-No. 15 Vanderbilt.
After having back-to-back games postponed due to unplayable field conditions, the Huskies hope to return to action this weekend with their BIG EAST-opener against Syracuse at 1 p.m. at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.
