Women's Volleyball Swept by Cardinals, 3-0

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (October 7, 2007) - Senior Sadé Chambers (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) recorded a match-high 17 kills as the University of Connecticut women's volleyball team fell to Louisville 3-0 (25-30, 15-30, 16-30) on Sunday afternoon in BIG EAST Conference action.
UConn, now 11-7 overall and 2-4 in the BIG EAST, hit just .063 as a team throughout the match as Louisville continued their winning streak and recorded a .392 hitting percentage. The Cardinals improved to 11-4 overall and a perfect 6-0 in the BIG EAST.
In game one of the afternoon, the Cardinals out-blocked the Huskies 6-2, while UConn recorded 16 kills to Louisville's 17. In the second game, Louisville's Lindsay Mango served for nine straight points to put the Cardinals up 25-9 as they cruised to an easy 30-15 win. The Cardinals added seven more blocks and four aces to help the cause.
Game three wasn't much easier for the Huskies, as the Cardinals recorded 18 kills while the Huskies had just a .135 hitting percentage. But UConn was able to put up a fight, led by Chambers. Ultimately, the Cardinals defeated the Huskies 30-16 in game three to earn the match victory.
Louisville had four players record eight kills each while Cardinal setter Elena Pilnikova dished out 23 assists and picked up six digs. Justine Landi added a .412 hitting percentage with her eight kills and five digs.
Freshmen Lauren Lamberti (Cary, Ill.) and Rebecca Murray (Carmel, Ind.) both recorded six kills for the Huskies as setter Bridget Denson-Dorman (Golden Valley, Minn.) had 36 assists and five digs. Libero Jessica Isaac (Erlanger, Ky.) added 16 digs in the loss.
UConn will travel to Rutgers on Saturday, Oct. 13 for a BIG EAST Conference match-up set to start at 2:00 p.m.
