CINCINNATI, Ohio (October 5, 2007) - Bridget Denson-Dorman (Golden Valley, Minn.) recorded 45 assists and nine digs as the University of Connecticut women's volleyball team fell to Cincinnati 3-1 (17-30, 14-30, 30-27, 28-30) on Friday night in BIG EAST Conference action in Fifth Third Arena.
The Huskies, who have not beaten Cincinnati since the teams' first meeting on Sept. 25, 2005, seemed to have a slow start to the match as the Bearcats took a quick 8-4 lead and extended their lead to 15 as Stephanie Niemer led her team on a 12-0 run. Three kills by Jessica Elley and two by Lindsay Upton along with four Husky attacking errors allowed the Bearcats to dominate the first game while winning 30-17.
Game two was controlled by the Bearcats as hitting errors, again, took its toll on the Huskies. UConn committed six attacking errors in game two while only recording seven kills. Cincinnati picked up 19 kills in the game en route to a 30-14 game two victory.
UConn bounced back in game three, winning 30-27, as the Huskies finally found holes in the defense and recorded 15 kills while committing just two errors. The Bearcats still connected for 20 kills but recorded 10 hitting errors, which kept the game close until the end.
Cincinnati closed the match with a close 30-28 win in game four as the score was tied 11 times while the lead changed four times throughout the game. The Huskies were able to match the Bearcats' 19 kills in the game but were unable to come away with the win.
Junior Chauntay Mickens (Germantown, Md.) had 10 kills while freshman Lauren Lamberti (Cary, Ill.) led the Huskies with 13 kills while hitting 27.9-percent. Sophomore Kate Seabaugh (St. Louis, Mo.) added nine kills and seven digs while libero Jessica Isaac (Erlanger, Ky.) picked up 18 digs.
Cincinnati's Niemer finished the match with 21 kills while three other Bearcats recorded double-digit kills. Setter Annie Fesl dished out 58 assists and had 13 digs as the Bearcats rolled to 14-4 overall record and 5-0 record in the BIG EAST.
UConn, now 11-6 overall and 2-3 in the BIG EAST, will continue on the road as the Huskies travel to Louisville for a 2:00 p.m. match on Sunday, Oct. 7.
