Women's Volleyball Picks Up Win Over Rutgers

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (October 13, 2007) - Freshman Rebecca Murray (Carmel, Ind.) recorded a team-high 15 kills as the University of Connecticut women's volleyball team defeated Rutgers 3-0 (30-25, 30-27, 30-17) on Saturday afternoon in New Brunswick, N.J.
The Huskies, who lost three straight matches before rising to victory against the Scarlet Knights, came out swinging, hitting .318 in the first game against Rutgers' .275. Sadé Chambers (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) and Gina Heiderman (Niles, Ill.) both picked up 11 kills, while freshman Lauren Lamberti (Cary, Ill.) added 10 kills while hitting .600 in the match.
Game two was a more even fight, as the Huskies earned 18 kills in 38 attempts while the Scarlet Knights recorded 17 kills in 39 attempts as UConn took the game 30-27. The third and final game of the match, was controlled by the Huskies as UConn connected for 22 kills, hitting .618. The Huskies held Rutgers to just .194 and 12 kills in the game.
Setter Bridget Denson-Dorman (Golden Valley, Minn.) dished out 46 assists while teammate Jessica Isaac (Erlanger, Ky.) added 14 digs in the win.
Rutgers was led by Kyra Thompson, who recorded a match-high 16 kills and 12 digs. Emma Crystal recorded 23 assists and three block assists in the loss.
UConn, now 12-7 overall and 3-4 in the BIG EAST, will travel to Fordham on Sunday, Oct. 14 for a non-conference match against the Rams. The match is set to start at 2:00 p.m.
