Rowing Begins Fall Season At Head Of The Riverfront

HARTFORD, Conn. (Sept. 30, 2007) -- The University of Connecticut women’s rowing team opened its fall season in successful fashion on Sunday at the Head of the Riverfront.
The UConn varsity eight team finished in first place to capture the LaPerla Plate for the first time since 2000. That varsity eight consisted of freshman Molly Reister (Buffalo, N.Y.), sophomore Kelly Murphy (Marietta, Ga.), sophomore Theresa Nolan (Atlantic City, N.J.), senior Olga Solovyova (New London, Conn.), sophomore Sarah Willhoft (Manchester, Conn.), junior Kathy Les (South Windsor, Conn.), sophomore Elizabeth Dargie (Waterford, Conn.), senior Monica Parker (Glastonbury, Conn.) and senior Allyson Zoppa (East Hartford, Conn.).
The second varsity eight race saw the UConn A boat finish first while the UConn B boat was third out of eight crews. The UConn A boat was comprised of senior Heather Dwyer (Brewster, N.Y.), freshman Taylor Hoige (Baldwinsville, N.Y.), sophomore Kristen Beasley (Centerville, Mass.), sophomore Rebecca Likar (East Lyme, Conn.), freshman Kimberly Weber (Ridgefield, Conn.), freshman Gretchen Stern (Rexford, N.Y.), sophomore Elizabeth Harsley (Riverdale, N.J.), sophomore Kathryn Rauscher (Manchester, Conn.) and junior Heather Gates (Monmouth Beach, N.J.). The UConn B boat in the race was senior Lauren Chan (Princeton Junction, N.J.), junior Julie Konstantino (Orange, Conn.), sophomore Hayley Percy (Woodbridge, Conn.), sophomore Jennifer Reynolds (South Hero, Vt.), senior Maddie Bey (South Windsor, Conn.), sophomore Charisse Laughery (Columbia, Conn.), senior Kylie Calzone (Redding, Conn.), freshman Julie Tibbits (East Lyme, Conn.) and junior Brynne Davies (Middlebury, Conn.).
The UConn varsity four A boat finished second in their race while the UConn varsity four B boat was tenth. The UConn varsity four A boat was freshman Molly Reister (Buffalo, N.Y.), Solovyova, Willhoft, Les and Nolan. The UConn varsity four B crew was sophomore Leah Masopust (Morris, Conn.), senior Katie Beasley (Centerville, Mass.), Zoppa, freshman Efthimiou Efmorfia (Stonington, Conn.) and senior Kelly Dwyer (Brewster, N.Y.).
In the Alumni eight event, UConn had two boats entered which were comprised of graduates from 1998-2007. UConn finished first and third out of three, while Trinity was second.
