Rowing Opens Up 2006-07 Sesaon In Mystic

MYSTIC, Conn. (September 17, 2006) --- The University of Connecticut women’s rowing team opened up its 2006-07 season on Sunday afternoon at the Mystic Coastweeks Regatta. UConn has three teams entered in the Open Four category and the Husky boats finished second, third and seventh.
Coast Guard won the Open Four race in 8:47.26 while the UConn A boat of senior Gabby LaChance (Mystic, Conn.), junior Monica Parker (Glastonbury, Conn.), junior Olga Solovyova (New London, Conn.), senior Kelly Garges (Queche, Vt.) and senior Nicole Rapp (Mansfield, Conn.) finished second in 9:00.42.
The UConn B team of junior Katie Beasley (Centerville, Mass.), senior Michelle Stathers (Tolland, Conn.), junior Ally Zoppa (East Hartford, Conn.), junior Kathleen Jureller (Fayetteville, N.Y.) and senior Kerri Mocko (Stafford Springs, Conn.) was third with a time of 9:15.18.
The UConn C team of junior Heather Dwyer (Brewster, N.Y.), junior Arielle Shiely (Clinton, Conn.), sophomore Maddie Bey (South Windsor, Conn.), freshman Megan Kielty (West Newton, Mass.) and junior Kathryn Dobbins (Southington, Conn.) finished seventh with a time of 9:57.53.
UConn next competes on Sunday, Oct. 1 at the Head of the Riverfront Regatta in Hartford, Conn.
