Four Huskies Take Home BIG EAST Lacrosse Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (May 16, 2006) - Junior Shannon Burke (Camillus, N.Y.) headlines the list of University of Connecticut women’s lacrosse players named to All-BIG EAST Teams, announced Monday by the league office. Burke garnered First Team honors for the second consecutive season, while teammates senior Kristen Haldeman (Malvern, Pa.), junior Laura Trzasko (Plainsboro, N.J.) and senior Abbey VanDeusen (Fayetteville, N.Y.) earned Second Team accolades.
Burke paced the Huskies (5-11, 0-5 BIG EAST) all season, finishing the year with a team-leading 54 points off 39 goals and 15 assists. She has scored in 38 consecutive games, dating back to Aug. 10, 2004, to best the previous record by 12 games and counting. The junior midfielder also tallied 29 ground balls, 16 draw controls and 15 draw controls this season.
In her first year in the starting line-up, Haldeman played every minute of the 2006 season, taking her place between the pipes for 966 minutes. The senior goalie made 191 saves, moving into second place in the school record books behind April Pollack’s 195 saves in 2000. Haldeman also earned 31 ground balls and nine caused turnovers on the year.
Trzasko started in all 16 games in the midfield during 2006, posting 22 goals and four assists to finish fourth on the team in points. Along with fellow honoree VanDeusen, she led the Huskies with 33 ground balls, while coming in second on the team in caused turnovers with 25.
VanDeusen finished the season second on the team in points, tallying 27 goals and eight assists in 16 games of action as a red-shirt senior. She scored in 14-of-16 games, earning multi-point affairs in each of those contests. VanDeusen also put up 33 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers while playing on the attack in 2006.
