Rowing takes 3 of 4 from Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. (April 22, 2006) - The University of Connecticut women's rowing team took three out of four events from Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon. UConn took first place in the Varsity 8 race, the Junior Varisty 8 and the Varsity 4.
The Varsity 8, consisting of Katie Beasley (Centerville, Mass.), Alison Elmo (Highland Mills, N.Y.), Christina Cotter (West Seneca, N.Y.), Katie Devonshuk (Beacon Falls, Conn.), Nicole Rapp (Mansfield, Conn.), Kali Garges (Queche, Vt.), Stephanie Chivers (Dalton, Mass.), Erin Bartie (Westport, Conn.) and Kerri Mocko (Stafford Springs, Conn.) raced in 6:44.42 to take first place. Holy Cross came in second at 6:52.
The JV8, including Gabbey LaChance (Mystic, Conn.), Caitlin Meisinger (Bristol, Conn.), Brooke Grauer (Fairfield, Conn.), Olga Solovyova (New London, Conn.), Erin Andersen (Barrington, R.I.), Kelly McGary (Lewisville, N.C.), Monica Parker (Glastonbury, Conn.), Valerie Voorhees (Liverpool, N.Y.) and Arielle Shiely (Clinton, Conn.) won in with a time of 6:59.8. Holy Cross was second at 7:06.8.
The Novice 8 lost a close race. Holy Cross was first at 7:28 and UConn was second at 7:31.3. In the boat for Connecticut were Heather Dwyer (Brewster, N.Y.), Kellyn Mahan (Danielson, Conn.), Stephanie Bryant (Natick, Mass.), Kathy Les (South Windsor, Conn.), Maddie Bey (South Windsor, Conn.), Sarah Fennell (Eden Prairie, Minn.), Molly Berry (Acton, Mass.), Lauren DeMarco (Queensbury, N.Y.) and Kelly Dwyer (Brewster, N.Y.).
In the Varsity 4 race, the UConn A boat consisting of Lauren Chan (Princeton Junction, N.J.), Whitney Peterson (Salem, Mass.), Heather Cannon (Wallingford, Conn.), Kate Jureller (Fayetteville, N.Y.) and Kara Forman (Manchester, Conn.) won in 8:03.1, the UConn lightweight 4 was second in 8:12.49 and Holy Cross third in 8:26.55.
UConn next competes in the BIG EAST Championship on Sunday in Worcester, Mass.
