Bayers Selected To Represent UConn At NCAA Leadership Conference

STORRS, Conn. (April 21, 2006) – B.J. Bayers (St. Louis Park, Minn.), a freshman member of the University of Connecticut men’s hockey team, was selected to attend the NCAA Leadership Conference to be held May 28-June 1 in Orlando Fla. Bayers was chosen to represent UConn from a pool of four students nominated by the University.
The mission statement from the NCAA Leadership Conference website states “The NCAA Leadership Conference provides NCAA student-athletes with a forum to openly discuss issues that may affect them on their campuses and in their communities, while also providing them with the opportunity to enhance their leadership, communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills. The leadership conference also promotes better communication among student-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty and communities. The five-day leadership conference consists of daily exercises and activities to help the student-athletes develop as individuals and as contributing members to a group.”
Bayers had a successful rookie campaign with the Huskies. He played in a total of 30 games, scored two goals and tallied six assists for a total of eight points. Bayers helped the Huskies to a historical season in which head coach Bruce Marshall recorded his 250th win, the team advanced to the Atlantic Hockey Semifinals and the Huskies earned their first points in the U.S. College Hockey Online national poll.
