Rowing Takes Second At Yankee Cup

The UConn Novice four (H.Dwyer, Fennell, Gates, Seder, K. Dwyer) started the racing day with a win for UConn. UConn raced in 8:10.5, UMass was second with 8:15.3 and URI was third with 8:28.9.
The Varsity four (Chan, Peterson, Forman, Jureller and Raetz) led the race at the 1,000-meter mark, but then collided with UMass and ended up fourth. UNH was first with a time of 7:56.58, UMass second at 7:57.75, URI third at 7:59.8, and UConn fourth at 8:04.9.
The Novice 8 (Joubert, Les, Solovyova, Mahan, Bey, Winslow, Berry, DeMarco and Bryant) raced very well and came in a close second to UMass. UMass won in 7:09, UConn was second in 7:11.96. URI finished third in 7:20.56, UNH was fourth in 7:29.86.
The lightweight four (H.Dwyer, Zoppa, Stathers, Dobbins and Gates) raced only UMass and won easily. UConn raced at 7:57.9, while UMASS was 8:21.2.
The Junior Varsity 8 (LaChance, Parker, Meisinger, Grauer, McGary, Shiely, Anderson, Cannon and Voorhees) was second in its race. UMass won in 6:55.7, UConn was second in 7:01.3, URI third in 7:01.9 and UNH fourth in 7:17.4.
The Varsity 8 (Beasley, Elmo, Cotter, Devonshuk, Chivers, Garges, Rapp, Bartie and Mocko) also finished second to UMass. UMass won with a time of 6:34.6, UConn second in 6:38.07, URI third in 6:39.10 and UNH fourth in 6:44.69.
"It was unfortunate that we were unable to win the points trophy this year, however each boat showed great potential and I am looking forward to racing UMass once again next weekend at the Knecht Cup," said Head Coach Jen Sanford-Wendry. "I am confident that we can pick up some speed this week."
UConn races again on Sunday, April 2nd at home against Army, Fairfield, and Trinity. Racing starts at 9:00 a.m. at Coventry Lake.
