COVENTRY, Conn. (April 2, 2006) - The University of Connecticut women's rowing team hosted its first home race of the season on Sunday morning, however due to high winds and dangerous racing conditions, the Varsity 8 was the only event run. UConn won in 6:57.3 and Army was second in 7:08.45. In the boat for UConn were Katie Beasley (Centerville, Mass.), Alison Elmo (Highland Mills, N.Y.), Christina Cotter (West Seneca, N.Y.), Katie Devonshuk (Beacon Falls, Conn.), Stephanie Chivers (Dalton, Mass.), Kali Garges (Queche, Vt.), Nicole Rapp (Mansfield, Conn.), Erin Bartie (Westport, Conn.) and Kerri Mocko (Stafford Springs, Conn.) "It was very disappointing to have to cancel this mornings racing, especially for the crews from out of town," said Head Coach Jen Sanford-Wendry. "The Varsity 8 event was survival rowing, it was a good experience for us as we may face similar conditions at other races this spring." UConn races next weekend on Saturday and Sunday at the Knecht Cup in Camden, N.J.
