Rowing Competes at St. Joseph's University

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (March 26, 2006) – The UConn women's Rowing team won 3 out of 5 races against St. Joeseph's University. The Varsity 8 (Beasley, Elmo, Cotter, Devonshuk, Chivers, Garges, Rapp, Bartie, Mocko) led from start to finish, and won by a small margin, 0.8. UConn was 6:55.2, St. Joe's 6:56.0.
The Second Varsity 8 (LaChance, Parker, Meisinger, Grauer, McGary, Shiely, Andersen, Cannon, Voorhees) won easily vs St. Joe's A and B. UConn was 7:11.2, while St. Joe's A was 7:23.5, St. Joe's B 7:46.9.
UConn's two Varsity fours raced each other, and placed first and second ahead of St. Joe's. The UConn lightweight four (Zoppa, Stathers, Dobbins, Gates, H. Dwyer) was first with a time of 8:06 while UConn B (Chan, Peterson, Forman, Jureller, Raetz) was second in 8:15. St. Joe's raced in at 8:49. .
The UConn novice 8 (Joubert, Les, Solovyova, Mahan, Berry, Fennell, Bryant, DeMarco, Smith) finished in 7:30. St. Joe's won with a time of 7:16. .
The UConn novice 4 (Winslow, Bey, Seder, K. Dwyer, H. Dwyer) was even with St. Joe's at the 500 meter mark when UConn caught a crab. St. Joe's finished in 8:07, while UConn was 8:51.
The Huskies race again next weekend at the Yankee Cup vs. Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire on Saturday, and home vs Army, Fairfield, and Trinity on Sunday.
