Women's Diving Opens Competition at NCAA Zone Regionals

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (March 10, 2006) – The University of Connecticut men’s and women’s diving teams competed at the NCAA Zone A Regional Friday afternoon with two divers advancing to the final rounds.
Sophomore T.J. Ferguson (Plainville, Conn.) and freshman Liza Marianni (Cherry Hill, N.J.) represented the Huskies in the finals of the men’s three-meter dive and the women’s one-meter dive, respectively. Ferguson’s trial score of 254.45 put him in 18th place-the final position to advance to the next round. In the finals, Ferguson scored a 265.05 to give him a combined total of 519.5 which was good for 17th place overall. Marianni ended the one-meter trials in ninth place with a score of 215.70. She would end up finishing 13th overall with a finals score of 217.95 and combined score of 433.65.
Joining Ferguson in the men’s three-meter dive was junior Kevin Thompson (Stamford, Conn.) and sophomore Michael Clifford (West Islip, N.Y.). Thompson’s score of 242 was good for a 21st place finish, while Clifford ended the trials in 27th place with a score of 215.65.
Along with Marianni, sophomore Allison Coleman (New Canaan, Conn.) and senior Lauren Jacob (Elmira, N.Y.) represented UConn in the women’s one-meter dive. Coleman, the BIG EAST’s Co-Outstanding Diver of the Year, finished the trials in 26th place with a score of 189.2, while Jacob’s score of 160.20 was good for a 31st place finish.
Action will continue tomorrow at Lejeune Hall on the campus of the U.S. Naval Academy with the men’s one-meter dive and the women’s three-meter dive. The events are scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. (ET).
