Three Huskies Earn Individual League Honors

NEW YORK, N.Y (March 8, 2005)-- Three University of Connecticut players earned individual postseason awards as the BIG EAST Conference announced its major award winners at the Grand Hyatt Tuesday.
Sophomore Josh Boone (Mt. Airy, Md.) was named the 2004-05 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year. Boone was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team Monday.
Sophomore Marcus Williams (Los Angeles, Calif.) was selected as the 2004-05 BIG EAST Most Improved Player. He shared the award with Jared Dudley of Boston College. Williams was named to the All-BIG EAST Third Team Monday.
Freshman Rudy Gay (Baltimore, Md.) was selected the 2004-05 BIG EAST Rookie of the Year, sharing the award with Jeff Green of Georgetown. Gay was a unanimous selection to the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team Monday.
Boone leads the BIG EAST in rebounding and blocked shots and is averaging 12.9 points per contest. Williams leads the BIG EAST in assists at 8.0 per game. Gay is averaging 11.7 points and 5.8 rebounds.
UConn opens play in the 2005 BIG EAST Championship on Thursday, March 10 with a 7:00 p.m. quarterfinal matchup against the winner of the Georgetown/Seton Hall First Round contest. The game will be televised by espn2.
