2004-05 Men's Basketball Schedule Announced

STORRS, CT (September 8, 2004)-- The University of Connecticut announced its 2004-05 Men’s Basketball schedule Wednesday, a challenging 27-game regular season slate that is highlighted by home contests against BIG EAST foes Syracuse, Pittsburgh and Notre Dame and non-conference opponents Indiana and North Carolina.
The schedule features 19 home contests, which includes 17 regular season games and two exhibition foes.
UConn will play 13 regular season games on national television in 2004-05, five on CBS, six on ESPN and two on espn2.
“Once again I think we have been able to put together a schedule that our fans and players can be excited about,” said head coach Jim Calhoun. “There is a great balance between the Civic Center and Gampel games and the non-conference schedule is very strong, with Indiana, North Carolina, Oklahoma and Rice just to name a few. Our league schedule, especially with home-and-home series against Syracuse, Notre Dame and Pittsburgh, will be as tough as ever.”
The Huskies will play 11 games at the Hartford Civic Center, including nationally-televised CBS contests against Indiana (Dec. 4) and North Carolina (Feb. 13). Connecticut also hosts Notre Dame (Feb. 21) in Hartford for an ESPN Big Monday contest. The HCC slate begins November 11 with an exhibition against Bryant University, which reached the NCAA Division II Sweet 16 in 2003-04.
UConn will host eight games at Gampel Pavilion on the Storrs campus, beginning with a November 4 exhibition with in-state Division II opponent, the Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport. Highlighting the Gampel schedule will be a January 22 ESPN contest against Pittsburgh and a CBS telecast to finish the regular season against the Orangemen of Syracuse on March 5.
The 2004-05 season marks the first in which schools are required by new NCAA legislation to play exhibition games against either NCAA Division II or III opponents, resulting in the UConn contests versus Bridgeport and Bryant.
UConn will also spend part of their early season overseas, traveling to London over Thanksgiving week for a trip that will include four exhibition contests against English League professional squads. UConn will leave the for that trip on Sunday, November 21 and return home on Saturday, November 27. The complete schedule for that trip will be announced at a later date.
Local television broadcast plans and times for the remainder of the schedule will be announced at a later date.
