Cooley Earns Post Season Academic Honors

STORRS, CT (May 22) – Senior Jennifer Cooley (New Hartford, CT) of the University of Connecticut women’s rowing team was named to the Verizon Academic All- District I Women’s At-Large Team as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Cooley was named to the All-District First Team, and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CoSIDA.
A three-year member of the varsity eight rowing squad, Cooley has developed into a strong leader for the University of Connecticut rowing program. A walk-on freshman, Jennifer has been an integral part of the building of the young seven-year program. She has held the coxswain of the varsity eight boat for the last three seasons, proving she is a leader to the team.
Cooley will be graduating with a degree in Elementary Education from UConn, and will complete her studies with a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education in May of 2004. Through the fall of 2002, Cooley holds a grade point average of 3.959 in her degree of Elementary Education. In her four years at Connecticut, she has been on the Dean’s List in all her seven semesters, and is also a member of the prestigious University of Connecticut Honor’s Program. She was admitted in her freshman after posting a combined SAT score over 1320 and ranked in the Top Eight percent of her high school graduating class. She has maintained above a 3.2 grade point average since arriving at UConn to preserve a place in the program. In 2001 and 2002, Jennifer was named a New England Region Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association National Scholar-Athlete, a feat only three other past UConn rowers have earned.
