Huskies Take Three of Six in Three-Team Meet

FAIRFIELD, CT (March 27, 2002) – The University of Connecticut women’s rowing team took three out of six races Wednesday afternoon in a competition between UConn, Rhode Island and Fairfield.
The Huskies top spots came in the Novice 8, JV 4 and Novice 4 races with times of 6:35.81, 7:41.33 and 7:35.24, respectively. URI came in second in the Novice 8 (6:56.42), followed by Fairfield with a time of 7:04.46. In the JV 4, URI did not race, leaving second place to Fairfield, who clocked a time of 7:56.8. In the Novice 4, Fairfield took second this time (7:43.61), URI came in next with a time of 8:03.98, and Fairfield’s B team took last at 8:06.10.
UConn took second in the JV 8 with a time of 6:41.02 and the Varsity 8 at 6:23.47. Rhode Island claimed first in both those races with times of 6:04.08 and 6:21.88, respectively, followed by Fairfield at 7:00.26 and 6:39.97.
Fairfield’s only victory came in the Varisty 4 race (7:19.5) where UConn took third (7:46.73) and URI took second (7:22.16).
The Huskies compete next against Rutgers at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, in Piscataway, NJ.
