Huskies Fall to Notre Dame in BIG EAST Semis

PITTSBURGH, PA (Nov. 23) - The University of Connecticut lost a hard fought match to Notre Dame 3-1 on Saturday, in the BIG EAST Tournament semifinals at Fitzgerald Fieldhouse in Pittsburgh, PA. Connecticut with the loss finishes the season 14-15 overall, while Notre Dame moves to 22-7.
UConn jumped out to an early 13-9 lead in game one after kills by seniors Sarah Walton (North Fork, CA) and Christine Lambert (Lancaster, CA). The Huskies extended the lead to 20-14 on back to back service aces by Lambert. Notre Dame fought back to bring the game to 23-19 behind the serves of Jessica Kinder. Connecticut finished game one on a kill by junior Julie Erbez (Stockton, CA) for the 30-26 victory. UConn was led in game one by Walton and Lambert who each had five kills.
Notre Dame took control early in game two with a 13-8 lead behind kills from Katie Neff and Lauren Brewster. UConn could never put together a run in game two as they fell 30-17, to even the match at one game a piece. The Huskies were led by freshman Megan Crawley (Georgetown, TX) and Jamie Hadenfeldt (Benicia, CA) with three kills each in game two.
Game three saw Notre Dame jump out to an early 9-3 lead behind two kills from Lauren Kelbley. Connecticut fought back to within two at 12-10 with a kill by Lambert. Notre Dame took control from there winning game three 30-22 for the two games to one lead. UConn was led again by Lambert with four kills.
The Irish pushed out to an early 12-3 lead in game four behind the service of Neff. The Huskies never rebounded from the early deficit and dropped game four 30-18. Senior Melissa Wooley led Connecticut in game four with four kills.
The Huskies were led by Lambert with 14 kills on a .429 attack percentage. Wooley and Crawley each added 10 kills, while Erbez set the game with 38 assists.
Notre Dame was led by Jessica Kinder and Kelbley with 15 kills a piece, while Emily Loomis added 14 kills.
