Huskies Cruise Past Bryant in Home Opener

STORRS, Conn. - UConn volleyball swept Bryant, 3-0, in its home opener Tuesday night at the UConn Volleyball Center. The Huskies finished with 45 kills and a .294 hitting percentage while holding Bryant to 26 kills and a .135 percentage.
After Bryant scored the first point, the Huskies answered with six straight to move ahead 6-1, getting kills from Helena Einarsdottir, Courtney Grayson and Grace Maria along with two Einarsdottir service aces. The Huskies kept adding to the margin as Maja Daca had a kill and an ace before Grayson's kill made it 9-2, and later pushed the set to 15-6 on an Einarsdottir kill and a Hazuna Akishige ace. UConn got kills from Daca, Olivia Grenadier, Isabella Sohl and Sydney Borowy to take a 21-13 lead. Daca's kill sparked a four-point run to close the set, with Akishige adding another ace before Grayson finished it off with a kill for the 25-13 win.
The Huskies jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the second set behind three early kills from Daca before Bryant took a 15-11 advantage. UConn battled back from a 18-14 deficit as Daca added a kill and a service ace, while Grayson's block tied the set at 19-19. The Huskies continued to battle late, with Sydney Borowy's kill tying the set at 22-22 before Jordyn Hughes followed with a kill to put UConn ahead, 23-22. Hughes then helped the Huskies reach set point with a block before Daca closed out the set with a kill fromย Sohl for the 25-22 win.
UConn opened the third set with a 5-1 run, getting kills from Einarsdottir, Olivia Pasternak and Grayson. After Bryant pulled within 6-4, UConn responded with a four-point stretch that included three service aces from Maggie Carley and a Grayson-Einarsdottir block to take a 16-13 lead. The Huskies continued their run, winning seven of eight rallies to move ahead 18-14. UConn maintained its advantage late, taking a 23-19 lead on a Hughes kill before Daca closed out the set with a kill from Sohl for the 25-23 win.
Sohl also surpassed 200 career assists during the match, tallying 36 assists in the victory and bringing her season total to 226.
