STORRS, CT (October 28) – The University of Connecticut men’s hockey team and Quinnipiac University will square off on Friday, November 1 for the first of the year’s three game series. The game, which will be televised live on NESN (7:30 pm) from the UConn Ice Arena in Storrs, is sure to be a competitive Division I match-up as the two teams fight for good positioning in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) early in the season.
The first 100 people to enter the UConn Ice Arena in a Halloween costume will receive a free UConn hockey t-shirt. Also, the Connecticut marketing department will be distributing ticket vouchers throughout campus (library, student union, subway, etc.) for university students. The first 300 students to return the voucher to the UConn Athletic Ticket Office by 4:30 pm on Friday, November 1 will receive free admission to the night’s game.
Heading into Friday’s game, UConn looks to capture its first conference win of the season, as the Huskies hold a record of 1-2-0 overall, 0-1-0 in the MAAC League. Connecticut is coming off one of its biggest wins in school history with a 5-4 overtime thriller at Colgate University. In their fifth season as a growing Division I program, the Huskies earned their first win over an ECAC opponent and one of the “Big Four” conferences in men’s college hockey. Husky senior Ron D’Angelo leads the squad with three goals and two assists, including the overtime game-winner against Colgate.
Quinnipiac is looking to remain undefeated in the MAAC with its 2-0-1 league record. The Bobcats are coming off a 1-0-1 conference weekend with a win over Canisius (6-3) and a 3-3 tie at Mercyhurst. Holding an overall record of 4-1-1, Quinnipiac’s only loss of the year was at the hands of Lake Superior, a 2-1 defeat at the Black Bear Tournament on the campus of the University of Maine. The Bobcats also captured its annual Quinnipiac Cup title in wins over Bentley College and American International, both considered non-league games. Matt Craig leads the Bobcats with four goals and six assists for 10 points.
