PHILADELPHIA, PA- The University of Connecticut rowing team competed in the opening day of the 63rd Dad Vail Regatta on Friday. Known as the largest collegiate regatta in the United States, the event is held every second weekend in May in Philadelphia, as both the Women’s Varsity Eight and the Women’s Novice Four were in action
The Varsity Eight used a 7:09.9 in the morning race for third in its heat, behind Delaware (7:01.1) and William and Mary (7:06.8). Later in the day, the varsity eight group was back in action as it clocked a 7:43.94 to win its heat and secure a place in the semifinal. The Novice Four used a time of 9:03.05 for fourth in its heat, which finished behind Wichita State (8:41.57), Johns Hopkins (8:53.95) and Rochester Institute of Technology (9:01.44).
The regatta continues on Saturday with a 7:15 a.m. start time.
