STORRS, Conn. (AP) - Freshman Caron Butler scored 21 points and Edmund Saunders added a career-high 20 as No. 16 Connecticut beat Brown 88-78 on Tuesday (Nov. 28).
Butler, one of the nation's top recruits, was suspended for UConn's first three games for an NCAA violation. The 6-foot-7 swingman also had 12 rebounds, three steals and five assists in his second game for the Huskies (4-1).
He scored 20 points in his delayed debut in UConn's 83-71 victory over Louisville last week in Hawaii.
Butler was 7-of-17 from the field and had six points in UConn's opening 12-3 run against Brown (1-3).
The Huskies did most of the damage inside, getting 46 points in the paint and 26 points off second chances. Saunders had 13 rebounds to help UConn to a 49-24 rebounding edge.
The Huskies held Brown to 30-percent shooting in the first half and led 46-26 at the break. UConn led by as much as 22 points early in the second period, but Brown cut the lead to 10 three times.
Brown's Earl Hunt had 20 of his 26 points in the second half. The Bears shot 63 percent in the second half.
Albert Mouring finished with 18 points for UConn and led the team with three blocks. Alaivaa Nuualiitia had 11 points and seven rebounds for Brown.
The game was a homecoming of sorts for second-year Brown coach Glen Miller, a former UConn assistant under Jim Calhoun. Miller also played under Calhoun at Northeastern.
