Huskies Battle to a Draw With Sacred Heart

STORRS, Conn. โย The UConn men's soccer team played the Sacred Heart Pioneers to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium, extending its unbeaten streak to four straight games. The Huskies improve to 3-3-1 on the season.ย
Sacred Heart opened the scoring in the 28thย minute when Brady Poor found the back of the net to give the Pioneers 1-0 lead.
A physical opening half concluded with Sacred Heart ahead at the half, while holding a 5-2 advantage in shots. The teams combined for 13 fouls in the opening 45 minutes.ย ย
UConn came out strong to open the second half, applying pressure in the attacking third and generating nine shots over the first 25 minutes of the half.ย
The Huskies were awarded a penalty kick in the 73rdย minute after a Pioneers foul on Alfonso Arredondo inside the box. UConn's leading goal scorer, Elijah Langford stepped up and converted the penalty to level the score at 1-1. The goal markedย Langford'sย sixth of the season.ย ย ย
UConn continued to press Sacred Heart's defense over the final 15 minutes of the match, forcing Pioneers goalkeeper Anthony Suarez to make three key saves down the stretch.ย
The Huskies continued pressure earned them a second penalty kick following another foul inside the box in the 87thminute.ย Langfordย stepped up for his second penalty attempt of the game,ย but his shot struck the left post and stayed out, keeping the match tied at 1-1.ย
The Huskies generated 15 of their 17 shots in the second half, including 10 attacking actions from 75:08 to 87:54 with the score tied. UConn has now achieved at least 17 shots in two consecutive games.ย Langfordย was credited with the game-tying goal while leading UConn with four shots, including two on goal. Abel Ador put both of his shot attempts on frame and played all 90 minutes. Kyle Durham finished with two saves.
