Huskies Cruise Past Dolphins in 3-0 Sweep

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - UConn volleyball swept Jacksonville, 3-0, on Saturday at Swisher Gymnasium to close out the Dolphin Volleyball Classic with its second win of the season.
In set one, the Huskies used a strong serving run from Grace Maria, who recorded two aces, to build a 7-3 advantage before Jacksonville responded. UConn continued to pressure the Dolphins from the service line, with Maja Daca adding an ace before Hazuna Akishige followed with back-to-back aces to extend the lead to 15-10. Akishige then helped spark another UConn run with a kill and an assist on Daca's kill, pushing the Huskies ahead 17-10. UConn maintained control down the stretch, with kills from Olivia Grenadier, Helena Einarsdottir and Daca helping the Huskies close out the set, 25-17.
The Huskies battled through a back-and-forth second set before pulling away late to take a 2-0 match lead with a 25-19 victory. Jacksonville opened with a 6-2 advantage, but UConn responded with a kill and two service aces from Einarsdottir to take a 12-9 lead. Daca continued the momentum from the service line, adding back-to-back aces to extend UConn's advantage to 15-11. Kills from Daca and Courtney Grayson helped UConn build a 22-16 lead. Jacksonville trimmed the deficit late, but UConn closed out the set, 25-19, with Daca delivering another service ace.
Jacksonville came out strong in the third set, racing out to a 7-0 lead before UConn began to chip away at the deficit. The Huskies responded with kills from Grayson, Isabella Sohl and Sydney Borowy, cutting the margin to 9-6. UConn continued its comeback behind strong serving from Daca, who recorded back-to-back aces to help the Huskies even the set at 12-12. Daca and Grayson each delivered key kills as the Huskies built a 22-19 advantage. Borowy delivered back-to-back kills to close out the match, giving UConn the 25-23 set victory.
Borowy led UConn with 11 kills, while Daca added 10 kills and a team-high seven service aces. Akishige recorded a team-high 10 digs and added two service aces, while Sohl paced the Huskies with 24 assists.
UP NEXT: The Huskies return home for a home stretch beginning with Bryant for the home opener on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the UConn Volleyball Center.
