Huskies Improve to 3-0 Following Road Win over Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — UConn defeated Brown 3-0 on Friday. The Huskies outshot Brown 16-5, put 11 attempts on goal and got two saves in the shutout.
The Huskies took a 1-0 lead in the first quarter when Ellie Goldstein scored off an assist from Lucy Zich after a penalty corner. Zich later hit the post with a shot at 11:20, and UConn finished the quarter ahead 1-0.
Zich scored at 16:19 off assists from Milou Heuker and Abby Davidson, giving UConn a 2-0 lead in the second quarter. The Huskies also put pressure on Brown with a penalty corner and a Davidson shot saved by Ellie Parker before taking the 2-0 score into halftime.
UConn kept Brown off the board in a scoreless third quarter, with Natalie Mckenna making saves on shots by Kiersten Smith and Lizzie Loftus. Goldstein and Davidson each put shots on goal for the Huskies earlier in the quarter, but Ellie Parker saved both attempts. Brown earned two penalty corners in the quarter, and UConn entered the fourth leading 2-0.
The Huskies converted their early fourth-quarter pressure when Olivia McKenna scored at 48:23, with the goal putting UConn ahead 3-0. The buildup included four Davidson shots saved by Ellie Parker, two penalty corners by Heuker and a Lene Reiche shot saved just before McKenna's finish. Brown's only shot of the quarter went wide, and UConn closed out the 3-0 win.
In the first quarter, UConn converted its only penalty corner when Goldstein scored off Zich's assist at 4:22. The Huskies also had Zich hit the post later in the quarter, while Brown did not record a shot or penalty corner in the segment.
The second quarter's only goal came from Zich, who finished a penalty-corner sequence at 16:19 off assists from Heuker and Davidson. The Huskies also had Davidson shot saved by Ellie Parker and a Zich attempt blocked, while Brown did not record a goal in the quarter.
The third quarter was scoreless, with Brown holding a 4-3 edge in shots and earning the only two penalty corners. Natalie Mckenna stopped both Brown shots on goal, while UConn put two attempts on goal before taking a 2-0 lead into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, UConn had the shot edge, 7-1, and earned the only two penalty corners while holding Brown to one wide attempt. Olivia McKenna scored the quarter's only goal at 48:23, and Ellie Parker made five saves in the frame.
Goldstein scored the game-winning goal on two shots, putting both attempts on goal. Zich finished with a goal and an assist while taking four shots. Davidson added an assist and led the Huskies with seven shots, including six on goal. Natalie Mckenna posted a shutout in goal, making two saves over 60 minutes.
