STORRS, CT - UConn Director of Athletics David Benedict announced today the appointment of Andrew Olinger as Senior Associate Athletic Director for Financial Affairs. Olinger joins the Huskies after more than a decade of financial leadership at two of the nation's premier athletics programs.
Olinger will lead the department's business operations with a focus on strengthening operational efficiencies and sound fiscal management as UConn Athletics continues to evolve in an era of unprecedented change in college sports.
"Andrew brings an exceptional track record of managing complex financial operations at the highest level of collegiate athletics," said Benedict. "His experience overseeing major budgets, leading financial reporting processes, and driving meaningful cost savings makes him exactly the kind of strategic leader we need in this role. We're thrilled to welcome him to UConn."
"I am grateful to David Benedict and Annie Fiorvanti for the opportunity to join UConn Athletics and help advance its tradition of excellence," said Olinger. "I look forward to supporting our student-athletes and helping position the department for continued success. My family and I are excited to become part of the Husky family and begin this next chapter together."
Olinger comes to Storrs from Clemson University, where he served as Assistant Athletic Director for Business Operations. In that role, he led day-to-day operations of the business office and implemented a monthly payroll reconciliation process to ensure accuracy and enhance department financial projections. He also served as the primary athletics lead for the department's enterprise resource planning transition from PeopleSoft to Workday and directed the EADA/NCAA financial reporting process and external auditor review.
Prior to Clemson, Olinger spent nearly seven years at The Ohio State University Athletics Business Office, rising from Fiscal Associate to Assistant Athletic Director for Financial Planning and Analysis. In his final role at Ohio State, he managed a $250 million debt portfolio and generated more than $2 million in annual cash flow savings through strategic debt pre-payments. He also led the department's migration of internal financial reporting to Tableau, providing senior leadership and budget managers with real-time data access, and chaired the department's Budget Guiding Principles Group.
Before entering the business office side of athletics, Olinger built his foundation through hands-on experience in athletic operations. He served as a graduate assistant in the University of South Carolina's Department of Sport and Entertainment Management, where he contributed to research published in the Journal of Legal Aspects of Sport. He also held an operations internship role with the women's basketball program at the University of Maryland — including serving as a point of contact for program staff at the 2014 NCAA Women's Basketball Final Four.
Olinger holds a Master of Science in Sport and Entertainment Management from the University of South Carolina and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, with a finance focus, from the University of Maryland. He is an active member of the College Athletic Business Management Association (CABMA), where he has served on the Membership and Program Committees and participated in the organization's Mentor Me program.
