STORRS, Conn. – UConn closed the 2025-26 athletic year with its best finish in the Learfield Directors' Cup standings since 2010-11, placing 56th nationally with 459.00 points in the final rankings released Thursday by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.
The finish marks UConn's highest Directors' Cup placement in 15 years — the Huskies finished 44th in 2010-11 — and continues a steady climb up the standings, improving from 63rd in 2024-25 and 81st in 2023-24. UConn's 56th-place finish was the highest among BIG EAST institutions.
"This finish is a reflection of the championship culture our coaches and student-athletes have built across this department," said Athletic Director David Benedict. "Competing — and winning — at the highest level isn't limited to one or two programs here. It's become an expectation throughout our department, and this year's results show that commitment to excellence continues to grow."
The Directors' Cup measures overall athletic department success across the academic year, tracking results from the fall, winter and spring seasons. Points are based on each program's finish in NCAA Championships, with schools counting their five required sports — men's and women's basketball, baseball, women's soccer and women's volleyball — along with their next-highest 14 scoring sports, regardless of gender.
The push up the standings was fueled by championships and postseason runs across the department. UConn claimed BIG EAST regular-season titles in women's basketball, softball and baseball, while women's basketball, softball, men's and women's indoor track & field and men's and women's outdoor track & field all won BIG EAST Tournament championships. Women's hockey added a Hockey East Tournament title.
Both basketball programs advanced to the Final Four, with men's basketball going on to the national championship game.
Thirteen UConn programs reached NCAA Tournament or championship competition: football (Wasabi Fenway Bowl), men's soccer, field hockey, men's hockey, women's hockey, men's basketball, women's basketball, women's indoor track & field, softball, men's outdoor track & field and women's outdoor track & field.
Six UConn programs closed the year ranked in the final national polls: field hockey, men's soccer, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's hockey and women's hockey.
