Huskies Complete The BIG EAST Title Sweep

STORRS, CT – The UConn men's and women's track and field program took home the 2026 BIG EAST Outdoor Championship on Saturday on their home track at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex in Storrs. UConn finished the three-day meet with 43 total medals, 11 gold, 18 silver and 14 bronze.
For the fifth-straight season, the Huskies swept both the BIG EAST Indoor and Outdoor championships.
The UConn men bested the nine-team field with 273.5 total points with DePaul finishing second (134 pts) and Georgetown third (97 pts). The Huskies set a new BIG EAST record for consecutive titles with their sixth-straight outdoor championship.
The Husky women topped the 10-team field with 212 points, the second highest total in program history. DePaul finished second (184 pts) and St. John's was third (127 pts). UConn wins their fifth-straight outdoor championship and tie the BIG EAST record for consecutive titles, previously set by Louisville (2008-2012).
This year's senior class off undefeated over their UConn careers and give the Huskies their 16th-straight conference championship under head coach Beth Alford-Sullivan. Coach Alford Sullivan and her staff were the winners of this year's Men's and Women's BIG EAST Coaching Staffs of the Year.
Junior Josh Mooney was named the BIG EAST Most Outstanding Field Performer of the meet after winning the pole vault and taking second in the javelin. He finished as the BIG EAST Outdoor High Point Performer by adding a first place finish in the 110m hurdles to his ledge for 28 total points.
Junior Medwin Odamtten was the BIG EAST Outstanding Track Performer with golds in the 100m and 4x100 relay and a silver in the 200m.
The UConn men have won all six BIG EAST outdoor titles since returning to the conference in 2020-21. This marks the program's 10th BIG EAST Outdoor title all-time (2026, 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, 2013, 2011, 2002, 1982). The women claim their seventh BIG EAST Outdoor title all-time (2026, 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 1995, 1986).
On the track…
The men's 4x100 relay team of Nicholas Wright, Noble Gongon, Damon Simpson, and Medwin Odamtten were the gold medal winners with a time of 40.51 seconds.
Odamtten grabbed a second gold medal Saturday afternoon with a win in the 100m dash. Odamtten clocked in at 10.53 seconds for the top spot. In Friday's prelim, Odamtten set a new BIG EAST record with a time of 10.22, breaking the old mark of 10.24 set last spring by Demetrius Rolle of DePaul.
UConn also picked up points in the 100m from Gongon who was fifth (10.86), Simpson who was sixth (10.90) and Wright in seventh (10.93).
Odamtten collected his third medal of the championship in the 200m, finishing second to win the silver with a time of 20.96 seconds. UConn also took bronze in the event as freshman Teyedza Jaravaza clocked in at 21.19. Also scoring for the Huskies was senior Damon Simpson in fifth (21.35) and sophomore Nicholas Wright in eighth (21.74).
UConn swept the podium and the top four spots in the 110m hurdles with junior Josh Mooney leading the way with a personal best 14.00 seconds for the gold. The silver went to freshman Wyatt Gravier with a personal best 14.24 and the bronze went to senior William Watson who had a personal best of 14.34. Sophomore Jordon Quinn was fourth in 14.39, also a personal best.
In the men's side 400m hurdles, junior OJ Singletary took silver with a personal best time of 50.33 seconds. Wyatt Gravier took eighth place at 55.75.
The women's 4x100 relay team of Mia Dansby, Sarah Claflin, Audrey Kozak and Brooklyn Taylor claimed the silver medal posting a season-best time of 45.97 seconds.
Taylor grabbed a second silver medal with a second place showing in the 100m hurdles, clocking in at 13.83 seconds. UConn collected points in the event from sophomore Maresa Hense in fourth at 13.94, freshman Maia Rich in fifth at 14.00, a personal best, and senior Maegan Feeney in 15.23.
UConn's 4x400 relay team of senior Mekhi Stone, freshman Peyton Butler, freshman TJ Jaravaza and sophomore Del Lindsay took silver with a season-best time of 3:07.48. The 4x800m relay team of Sophomore Gabriel Cuffey, freshman John Canale, freshman Mason Brosious and sophomore Kelton Poirier claimed the bronze medal with a time of 7:31.89.
In the 400m hurdles, senior Jessica Starr took the bronze medal with a finish of 59.94 seconds. UConn also grabbed points from Kiley Shatzel in sixth at 1:01.39 and Maia Rich in eighth at 1:03.87.
In the 400m, junior Anna Connors was fourth in a personal best time of 53.57 seconds. On the men's side, senior Mekhi Stone was seventh in 48.06.
Sophomore Maresa Hense ran a season-best in the 200m, clocking in at 24.12 seconds to finish fourth. Junior Anna Connors took seventh in 24.44 seconds.
In the field…
The Huskies got a clean sweep of the medal podium in the javelin. Freshman Thomas Bannon earned the gold medal with a throw of 69.84m. Junior Josh Mooney earned the silver with a toss of 65.54m and senior Connor Hayford was the bronze winner at 64.44m. Also scoring for UConn was junior Michael Johnson in sixth place at 54.78m.
Freshman Marshall Potter earned his third medal of the weekend and this time he went to the top of the podium with a gold in the discus. Potter won with a throw of 52.15m. UConn also grabbed the fourth through seventh spots in the finals. Senior Alex Krause was fourth (46.91m), senior Nicholas Connolly was fifth (46.41), freshman Lucas DeCrescenzo was sixth (46.11m) and freshman Capp DeSheplo was seventh (45.77m).
Mooney took home a gold medal in the pole vault, clearing the bar at a height of 4.70m. Sophomore Kyle Kurtz won the bronze medal with a height of 4.30m. Junior Dar Jankovic took fourth with a height of 4.15m.
Junior Gabriela DeFelice picked up her second medal of the weekend, taking home the bronze in the discus. DeFelice had a throw of 46.34m for third place. Also scoring in the event was freshman Ella Karp who was sixth at 43.39m, a new personal best.
Freshman Matilda Brockley earned the silver medal in the triple jump, posting her best distance of the day on her second leap at 12.36m. Freshman Jaidah Garrett scored with an eighth place finish at 11.72m.
In the men's triple jump, senior Emi Erekosima won the silver medal with a leap of 15.17m.
In the high jump, UConn claimed the silver and bronze medals. Freshman Kaylee Meyer was second overall at 1.71m and classmate Ruby Tillson was third at 1.71m as well.
Senior Caitlin Dumouchel was the highest finisher in the javelin, taking fourth with a throw of 41.63m. Senior Alyssa Elliott was seventh at 38.44m and sophomore Emily Miler was eighth at 37.16m.
