Weekend at Penn State on Tap for UConn Golfers

STORRS, CT – The UConn men's golf team will play their final tournament of the regular season this week as they head to Penn State for the 49th-annual Rutherford Invitational at the Par-71, 7,130-yard Penn State Blue Course on Saturday and Sunday.
The Huskies are set to compete in a field of 13 teams that includes the host Nittany Lions, who have won 31 of the previous 48 events, Yale, Loyola Chicago, Binghamton, Long Island, Towson, St. John's, URI, George Mason, St. Thomas, Bucknell and defending champion Delaware.
UConn comes into their final tune-up before the BIG EAST Championship fresh off a comeback win at the Golfweek Stifel Spring Challenge. Three Huskies finished in the top-10 in the field to fuel the Huskies' first team trophy of the season. UConn finished at 849 (-15) over the three rounds to come in two strokes better than UAB for the team title.
UConn was led by sophomore Kai-Jun Huang (Taipei, Taiwan) who will lead the lineup this weekend at Penn State. Huang turned in his best performance of his Husky career finishing second in the field, just one stroke off the lead. He finished with a 208 (-8), his lowest tournament score this year.
Junior Brad Sawka (Ellington, CT) had his fourth top-10 finish of the season with a fourth place showing at the Spring Challenge. He leads the team with a 70.5 per round average and has 20 rounds at par or better.
Senior Connor Goode (Glastonbury, CT), who notched his fourth top-10 as well last time out, also posts a per round average under par at 71.6 this season. Rounding out the UConn lineup will be freshman Brennan Korn (Scottsdale, AZ) and sophomore Matt Costello (Taunton, MA) and freshman Brayden Jenard (Jupiter, FL) playing as an individual.
Saturday will feature 36 continuous holes with tee times off both hole No. 1 and No. 10 between 7:30 and 9:36 a.m. with Sunday's final round also featuring split tees with groups going off beginning at 8 a.m.
Following this weekend's tournament, the Huskies will be headed to the 2026 BIG EAST Championship on May 2-4 at Riverton Point Golf & Country Club in Bluffton, SC.
