NORFOLK, Va. - The UConn baseball team pounded out a season-high 14 runs on 13 hits to clinch a series win at Old Dominion, 14-3, in eight innings on Saturday afternoon at the Ellmer Family Baseball Complex.

After a scoreless first inning for the Husky bats, the UConn offense scored in all of its remaining seven at bats. After trailing 2-0 after the first, first baseman Jackson Marshall hit his first of two home runs, a solo shot, to get the Huskies on the board. The cleanup man for the Huskies finished the day with a pair of solo homers and a double.

UConn tied the game in the third on a Chase Taylor RBI double into the right center field alley. Rob Rispoli followed with an RBI single into left center to give UConn its first lead of the day, 3-2. Rispoli collected his first multi-hit game of the season on Saturday with a pair of hits, two RBI and reached base four times.

Gaby Tirado had a career-day at the plate with three hits and four runs batted in. The UConn catcher gave the Huskies the lead for good with a two-run single in the fourth.

Cayden Suchy pitched 4.0 innings on Saturday and maneuvered out of a dicey fourth inning. With runners at the corners and no outs, Suchy induced a ground ball to third base and Maddix Dalena cut the runner down at the plate. After a pop up and walk loaded the bases with two outs, Suchy got TJ Aiken to ground out to second to end the threat.

Nater Wachter gave the Huskies breathing room in the fifth with a towering three-run home run to dead centerfield to push the lead to 9-3.

Greg Shaw III closed out the win for the Huskies with 4.0 shutout innings of work out of the UConn bullpen.

The Huskies will try to grab their first sweep of the season on Sunday at 12 p.m.
