COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – UConn veteran goaltender Tia Chan was announced as a top 10 finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award on Thursday afternoon. The honor, which was first presented in 1998, is awarded annually to the top player in NCAA Division I Women's Ice Hockey by The USA Hockey Foundation.
Graduate Tia Chan (Hamilton, Ontario) has yet again made program history, becoming the first-ever top 10 finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award. Chan was the lone goaltender on the list.
In her final year in Storrs, Chan has had the winningest season in program history, earning 25 wins, seven more wins than the previous record (18, Alexandria Garcia in 2009-10). She also surpassed the single season saves record set by Elaine Chuli in 2015-16 (972), making 985 saves this year. Her current .948 save percentage would break the single season save percentage record held by Megan Warrener (.944).
Chan has produced stellar numbers this season in net, ranking top ten nationally in save percentage (3rd), goal against average (6th), goalie winning percentage (6th), and shutouts (8th).
