STORRS, CT - Construction on the Bailey Student-Athlete Success Center is well underway following a groundbreaking in April 2025, with completion expected in January 2027. The project represents a transformative re-imagining of over 77,000 square feet of the existing field house footprint, made possible by the largest gift in UConn Athletics history from alumna Dr. Trisha M. Bailey.
At the heart of the facility will be the Nayden Center for Academic Excellence, established through a $15 million commitment from longtime supporters Denis and Britta Nayden. The 12,000-square-foot hub will serve as a dedicated space for academics, holistic development, and well-being — providing programming, and services that will support UConn student-athletes for generations to come. "Watching this building rise has been incredibly exciting for all of us," said Director of Athletics David Benedict. "When we open our doors in January 2027, it will mark a new era for UConn student-athletes and a true reflection of the generosity and vision of our donors."
Serving as the home for UConn Field Hockey, Tennis, Rowing, and Men's and Women's Track and Field, the renovated facility will feature forward-facing team spaces dedicated to nutrition, mental health, compliance, and massage therapy, alongside a new sports medicine suite, strength and conditioning center, indoor practice turf, and rowing tanks. The project will also renovate existing offices, support spaces, team rooms, and locker rooms for coaches, officials, and athletes across all five programs. Additionally, exterior restrooms accessible to the public during sporting events at Sherman Field will be included as part of the project.
