PORTLAND, Ore. - The UConn baseball team (8-10) split a doubleheader at Portland with an 8-5 win in game one and 8-6 defeat in game two.

The Huskies rallied in game one with a five-run seventh inning to erase a three-run deficit. Cam Righi delivered a two-run double down the right field line to tie the game. Righi finished the game with three doubles and drove in three runs. Rob Rispoli put the Huskies ahead with a bloop RBI single into right field to plate Righi and take a 6-5 lead.

Chris Polemeni added an RBI single in the frame and Righi delivered another run scoring double in the eighth to give the Huskies some breathing room. Charlie Hale earned the victory out of the pen with 3.0 shutout innings and Paxton Meyers locked down his third save of the season by recording the final out of the ballgame on a strikeout.

Jackson Marshall got the Huskies on the board early in the first with an RBI single and Tyler Minick delivered an RBI double to make it 2-0 Huskies in the third.

Charlie West went 5.2 innings of work with all five runs he allowed coming in the fifth.

In game two, the Huskies jumped in front in the second on a two-out RBI single for Righi.

Portland answered with a three-run frame in the bottom half of the second against UConn starter Cayden Suchy. The score remained 3-1 entering the sixth, the Huskies plated four runs in the frame with nine batters coming to the plate. Polemeni delivered the big blow with a go-ahead three run home run to left to make it 5-3.

Portland immediately responded in the bottom half of the sixth with a three-run frame to regain the lead, 6-5.

Trailing 8-5 entering the ninth, the Huskies rallied with Polemeni recording his fourth hit of the contest, an RBI single to make it a two-run game.

UConn loaded the bases with two outs but a strikeout to Nater Wachter ended the comeback attempt.

The Huskies and Pilots will play a rubber game on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET / 12 p.m. PT.
