STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The UConn women's tennis team picked up a 4-2 road win over Stony Brook on Sunday afternoon, using a strong start in doubles and clutch singles matches.
The Huskies had early momentum by taking the doubles point with wins on the first two matches. Ela Platenikova and Victoria Matos teamed up for a 6-4 victory, while Madison McLeod and Chloe Lomans followed with another 6-4 win to give UConn the advantage. The match between Cameron Didion and Isabella Asenov was cut short before completion, with the Huskies still holding the lead.
Carrying the energy into singles play, UConn earned three wins across the lineup to put the match away. Didion controlled her singles match with a 6-1, 6-4 final. Asenov added a 6-1, 6-2 singles win. McLeod delivered the clinching point in a hard-fought three-set battle at ending in a 7-6, 5-7, 6-2 victory.
Stony Brook claimed two wins in singles, while the top singles match featuring Platenikova remained unfinished in a closely fought match. The efforts across doubles and singles helped the Huskies secure the nonconference road win.
Up next, the Huskies will face Quinnipiac on Tuesday, Feb.10th at 1pm at home.
