Lacrosse Opens 2026 Season Against Drexel

STORRS, Conn.- UConn women's lacrosse kicks off its regular season on Friday, taking on the Drexel Dragons at 2:30 pm in Philadelphia. UConn was predicted to finish third in the BIG EAST behind defending champion Denver and Villanova.
Players to Watch:
The Huskies finished the 2025 season 11-6, going 4-2 in conference play. Junior defender Abby Beran was named 2025 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year after a standout sophomore season. Beran led the conference with 1.94 caused turnovers per game and a team-high 53 ground balls. Beran was named a Preseason USA Lacrosse All-American Honorable Mention and 2026 Preseason BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year. Beran and senior attacker Rayea Davis were both preseason all-conference selections.
Davis led UConn in goals (48) and points (71) last season, recording a goal in 16 of 17 games and multiple goals in 14 of 17 contests. Davis enters the season already in the UConn record books, ranking 12th in program history with 120 goals and ninth with 57 assists.
Opponent Research:
UConn will open the season against Drexel for the second consecutive season, with Eve McGrogan scoring the overtime winner to lift the Huskies to a 10-9 victory in Storrs on February 8th, 2025.
Drexel finished 14-4 last season, falling to Stony Brook in the CAA Championship Game. The Dragons were predicted to finish second in the CAA behind Stony Brook. UConn will welcome the Sea Wolves to Storrs for its home opener on February 24th. Attacker Bea Buckley, midfielder Kate Quinn, and defender Katie Maloney were all selected to the preseason all-CAA team.
