No. 6 UConn Dominates Maine in Hockey East Quarterfinal

STORRS, Conn. – Six different Huskies found the back of the net as the No. 2 seeded UConn women's ice hockey team defeated the No. 7 seed Maine Black Bears, 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Toscano Family Ice Forum. UConn advances to the Hockey East semifinal round for the third consecutive season.
Tia Chan was outstanding in net for the Huskies, making 20 saves, and earning her 24th win of the season.
UConn jumped out to an early lead five minutes into the first period as senior forward Christina Walker netted her fifth goal of the season, giving the Huskies a 1-0 lead.
Senior forward Kyla Josifovic doubled the UConn lead just 111 seconds later, scoring her 12th goal of the season, making it 2-0. UConn took the two-goal lead into the first intermission. Shots favored the Huskies in the first period, 20-7.
UConn extended its lead early in the second period with a power-play goal by junior forward Livvy Dewar, her ninth of the season, making it 3-0.
Shortly after Dewar's goal, junior forward Julia Pellerin netted the Huskies first short-handed goal this season, increasing the margin to four goals. The goal marks Pellerin's 12th of the season.
UConn took a commanding 4-0 lead into the second intermission. Shots were in favor of the Huskies in the second period, 16-7.
Sophomore forward Claire Murdoch notched her first career four-point game, scoring the Huskies fifth goal of the game early in the third period. Murdoch finished with a goal and three assists. She has recorded multi-point performances in five of her last six games.
Senior forward Megan Woodworth was UConn sixth goal scorer of the night, recording her team-leading 15th goal of the season, pushing the Huskies lead to 6-0.
Maine managed to avoid the shutout, scoring their lone goal of the game with six minutes left in the third period. Despite the Black Bears effort to narrow the gap, UConn maintained control to secure the victory with a final score of 6-1.
The Huskies held a commanding advantage in shots on goal, outshooting Maine 53–21, well above their season average of 35.75 shots per game. On special teams, UConn was effective, converting 2-for-3 on the power play while Maine went 1-for-3. The Huskies blocked 12 shots compared to Maine's nine, contributing to their strong defensive effort.
