UConn jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning off the bat of Kaitlyn Breslin (Hopkinton, Mass.). The junior outfielder crushed a two-run homer run to left field, her second of the season.
Sophomore catcher Heidi Barber (Lino Lakes, Minn.) added to the Huskies lead in the 2nd inning with a sacrifice fly, scoring Kaitlyn Kibling (LaFayette, N.Y.) from third base, making it 3-0.
