TUCSON, Ariz. - The UConn baseball team (2-4) shut out Arizona (0-6), 4-0, on Friday evening at Hi Corbett Field.
LHP Charlie West earned the victory with 6.2 shutout frames that featured just three hits allowed, two walks and nine strikeouts. After manuevering around traffic in the first two frames, the junior settled into the ballgame and went through a stretch of retiring 10 Wildcats in a row from the second inning until the fifth.
The UConn offense scored early in the contest with Evan Menzel reaching via walk with one out in the first. The sophomore swiped second and came around to score on a Jackson Marshall RBI single.Â
Maddix Dalena provided the remainder of the offense for the Huskies with his second-straight three RBI game. Dalena lifted a sacrifice fly to center in the third, drew a bases loaded walk in the seventh and drove in a run on a fielder's choice in the ninth.Â
RHP Paxton Meyers closed out the ballgame by retiring seven of the eight batters that he faced.Â
The series resumes with game three on Saturday at 8 p.m ET / 6 p.m. MT. Cayden Suchy gets the nod on the mound for the Huskies.
