CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The UConn men's hockey team dropped game one of the weekend series vs. no.12 Boston College by a final of 5-2 Friday evening. The Huskies received goals from Ryan Tattle and Kaden Shahan, but a hat trick from James Hagans was too much to overcome.
The first period was all Boston College as the Eagles scored two goals late in the period to take a 2-0 lead heading into the second period. The Huskies started strong on the forecheck but after weathering the early storm from the Huskies, the Eagles went on the attack and never looked back. UConn's penalty kill was featured heavily in the first period as UConn was forced to kill off three penalties.
The second period began and it was all UConn. The Huskies strong forecheck paid off early as Jake Richard forced a turnover and after keeping the puck in the offensive zone found Ryan Tattle for the Huskies first goal of the night. Shortly after UConn found the equalizer as Kaden Shahan was in front for a tip in goal. Following the equalizer, the two teams battled with chances coming on both ends of the ice. With time running down in the period, a roughing penalty on freshman Anthony Allain-Samake put the Eagles on the power play and they wasted no time as James Hagans scored his third goal of the game to give Boston College the 3-2 lead heading into the period break.
Both teams traded chances in the third period, but it was a defensive battle as Boston College looked to maintain the one goal lead. With just under nine minutes remaining in the third period, Boston College added another to increase the eagles lead to two. The Huskies looked to climb their way back into the game with their best chance of the period coming on a Kadan Shahan breakaway, but the sophomores shot rang off the post and out. Late in the period, the Huskies pulled Muszelik in favor of an extra skater, but Boston College capitalized sealing the 5-2 win.
