WASHINGTON, D.C. – The No.3 UConn men's basketball team (17-1, 7-0 BIG EAST) rides a 13-game winning streak and perfect league record into the nation's capital on Saturday for a match-up at Georgetown (9-8, 1-5 BIG EAST). Tip from Capital One Arena is set for 12 p.m. and will air on FOX with Tim Brando and Donny Marshall on the call.
The Huskies have controlled the series against the Hoyas in recent seasons, winners of their last 10 against their longtime BIG EAST rival. That has flipped the all-time series lead, held by Georgetown since the early 1980s, in favor of the Huskies at 40-36. A season ago the Huskies swept the regular season series with GU for the fifth-straight year, scoring a 68-62 win in Washington and a 93-79 triumph in Hartford.
Connecticut is off to its best start in league play since the 1998-99 season (11-0), going 7-0 to start a league slate for the third time in program history (95-96, 14-0). UConn is 5-0 on the road this season and is 21-7 in true road games since the start of 2023-24, good for the second-most away wins amongst high majors in that span.
The Huskies were last in action on Tuesday night in Newark, picking up their fifth Quad 1 win with a 69-64 triumph at No. 25 Seton Hall. UConn used a 14-0 run in the first half to take a double-digit halftime lead, then made timely defensive stops and clutch free throws down the stretch to stave off a furious Pirate rally. Tarris Reed Jr. led the Huskies with 21 points, nine rebounds and three blocks in the win while Alex Karaban (13 points) and Braylon Mullins (11 points) also scored in double-figures. Mullins added three steals and a pair of blocks, including the rejection of a game-tying 3-point attempt in the final seconds of regulation.
Reed Jr. missed five games earlier this season but leads the Huskies with 14.5 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game while shooting 62.1 percent from the floor. Solo Ball is close on his heels atop the Husky scoresheet and scores 14.4 points per game, while Karaban checks in with 13.9 points per game. The Husky captain and All-America hopeful Karaban is top-three on the Huskies in scoring, rebounding (5.3 rpg), assists (2.1 apg) and blocks (0.9 bpg) while posting a 50.0/43.8/88.6 shooting line in a league-leading 33.4 minutes per game.
Braylon Mullins scores 11.7 points per game and has started UConn's last eight games after missing time early in the season with injury, shooting 48.2 percent from the floor and 37.9 percent from three. Silas Demary Jr. is the fifth Husky averaging double-figures with 10.1 points pr game and dishes out a league-leading 6.2 assists per game, a number that ramps up to 7.9 per game in BIG EAST action.
Georgetown enters Saturday's contest off an overtime heartbreaker on Tuesday at Creighton, falling 86-83 in Omaha to drop its fourth straight in BIG EAST play. KJ Lewis leads the Hoyas with 15.0 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, while Malik Mack adds 14.5 points and a team-best 4.3 assists per game. Georgetown is 7-3 at home this season.
Following its trip to Washington, the Huskies hit their first bye of the league schedule before returning to action at home on Jan. 24 to face second-place Villanova in Hartford.
