STORRS, Conn. — UConn volleyball moved to 9-1 on the season, sweeping Brown (27-25, 25-10, 25-19) on Friday night at the UConn Volleyball Center.
The Bears leapt out to an 11-2 advantage, forcing UConn into multiple timeouts early in the first frame. Making her first career start, Jordyn Hughes (Portage, Mich.) fired in two consecutive kills to keep the momentum going for the home team. Two kills from Werkmeister and multiple attack errors from Brown brought the Huskies within five at 19-14. McKenna Brand (Lucas, Texas) poured in an ace and kills from Werkmeister and Loren Winn (Dallas, Texas) cut the Brown lead to just 23-21. An ace from Brenna Wyman (Louisville, Ky.) and a clutch kill from Rome catapulted UConn in front at 24-23. Brown reclaimed the lead after kills from Mariia Sidorova and Ally Panzolff. Doga Kutlu (Ankara, Turkey) added an ace, and Maria added two terminations to put UConn in front 10-8.
