Huskies Take on No. 10 Akron in BIG EAST Opener

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's soccer team (5-0-3) opens BIG EAST play at No. 10 Akron (5-1-1) on Friday, September 19. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm and will be available to stream on ESPN+.
UConn is unbeaten through their first eight matches of their 2025 slate. The Huskies offense has had a strong start to the season, leading the conference in goals (15), assists (19), and goal differential (11). Senior forward Austin Brummett ranks atop the conference in goals (6) and points (12). Brummett's three game-winning goals this season ranks third nationally.
Redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper Kyle Durham has had a strong start to his UConn career, leading the conference in saves (35), and saves per game (4.38). Durham has four shutouts so far this season.
A Look at Akron
The Akron Zips are coming off their first loss of the season at No. 5 Vermont a week ago. Akron is coached by Jared Embick entering his 13th season. Embick and his coaching staff were picked as the BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year a season ago. The Zips were picked to win the Midwest Division in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll. Akron returns the reigning BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year in Mitch Budler to their 2025 roster. Budler was named to the Preseason MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List. He has only conceded one goal this season.
Series History
The last time these two programs met was in the 2024 regular season finale. The Huskies and Zips tied 0-0 at Morrone Stadium. UConn and Akron have never earned wins over one another as the all-time series record stands at 0-0-3.
