WSOC Finishes Off Non-Conference Play

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's soccer team (2-2-1) will close out their non-conference slate with a pair of matches this week. The Huskies travel to Kingston, R.I. to play the University of Rhode Island on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. on ESPN+. On Sunday, Sept. 14, the Huskies return home to Morrone Stadium to face the University of Maine at 1 p.m. on UConn+.
The Huskies are coming off a 1-0 road victory against Yale last Thursday. Anaya Johnson tallied her first goal of the season to end a three-game winless stretch.Â
The Huskies have scored three goals in its five matches. The UConn defense has been strong with three shutouts in five games this season. Goalkeeper Ava Yamas leads the BIG EAST Conference with a .629 goals against average. Senior captain defender Anna Carson leads the team by playing every minute of every game this season.
Rhode Island enters Thursday's contest with a 5-1 mark on the season with a victory against fellow BIG EAST foe, Providence. Mie Carstensen leads the Rams with three goals and seven points this season.Â
Maine is 1-3-1 this year with Emma Nicholson pacing the team with a pair of goals.Â
Sunday's home game is Huskies and Heroes Day at Morrone Stadium with the Huskies honoring all those that are serving and have served in the military.Â
